The upper part of the Machalilla National Park is one of the refuges and Habitat of a diversity of animals and plants some of which are endemic, where howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, trogons, orchids etc. The commune of El Pital, place of departure to the monkeys Guayacan trail is located just 20 minutes from Puerto Lopez either a walk or a tour with horses. It is noteworthy that there is two-day tour where you can camp in the upper part of this primary forest.

Another option for birding is the visit to RIO AYAMPE, place located 20 minutes south of Puerto López and is the Habitat of more than 280 species of birds in which excels the Esmeraldas Estrellita, Hummingbird endemic to the Tumbesian Region and considered the second smallest Hummingbird of the world... The duration of each excursion time is between 4 to 5 hours respectively.
